Matheran, meaning ‘forest on the forehead,’ is one of the smallest hill stations in India, yet it holds immense historical and cultural significance. Discovered in 1850 by Hugh Poyntz Malet, it served as a summer retreat during British rule. Its preservation as an eco-sensitive zone has maintained its untouched beauty, with no motor vehicles allowed, ensuring a serene and pollution-free environment.
