The Buddha Trails is a distinctive Himalayan trail running experience presented by The Hell Race — a series of some of India’s toughest endurance events. Set in the dramatic mountain terrain around Rimbick, Darjeeling (West Bengal), this race takes runners through steep ridges, forests and village trails with breathtaking views of the Himalayan giants including Kanchenjunga, Everest, Makalu and Lhotse.
Known as the “first trap to Hell”, The Buddha Trails is designed to test strength, grit and trail skill – making it a bucket-list challenge for serious trail runners.

Race Categories & Format
The Buddha Trails offers three distinctly challenging categories:
12 km Trail
- Distance: ~ 12 km
- Elevation Gain: ~ 640 m D+
- Cut-off: 02 hrs
- Terrain: Roads, trails, suspension bridge sections
- Description: A short but intense mountain loop – perfect as an introduction to Himalayan trail running and steel-testing steep paths.
- Aid Stations: Multiple support points including Sepi and Srikhola Bridge.
30 km Trail
- Distance: ~ 30 km
- Elevation Gain: ~ 1780 m D+
- Cut-off: 07 hrs
- ITRA Points: 2
- Terrain: Mountain and technical forest trails
- Description: Mid-level trail challenge weaving through forests and ridges with variable terrain – suitable for runners ready for climbs and mixed surfaces.
65 km Ultra Trail
- Distance: ~ 65 km
- Elevation Gain: ~ 3310 m D+
- Cut-off: 15 hrs
- ITRA Points: 3
- Terrain: High-altitude trails, dense forests, long ascents/descents
- Description: A true Himalayan ultra — taking runners up to scenic high points such as Sandakphu and Phalut — a stern test of endurance and elevation management. Intermediate cut-offs help keep runners on pace throughout the course.

- Scenic Himalayan Ridge Running: Runners traverse sections of the Sandakphu–Phalut ridge with panoramic mountain views of multiple eight-thousand metre peaks.
- Tough, Technical Trails: Expect a mix of forest paths, rocky sections and steep climbs that require both fitness and trail technique.
- Cultural & Natural Immersion: Trails meander through rustic villages and forested hamlets, giving runners a taste of local Himalayan life.
