About Kargil Vijay Diwas
On 26 July 1999, the Indian Armed Forces successfully concluded Operation Vijay, recapturing every peak infiltrated by Pakistani soldiers in the Kargil, Dras, and Batalik sectors of Jammu & Kashmir. The operation lasted nearly three months under extreme terrain and weather conditions. More than 650 Indian soldiers laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s territorial integrity.
Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed every year to honour their supreme sacrifice and to remind the nation of their unmatched valour. Running on this day is the community’s way of saying — we remember, we are grateful, and we will never forget.
