The Silk Route Ultra Trail 2026 is an epic trail running event organised by The Himalayan Expedition that takes runners along the erstwhile Silk Route — a legendary ancient trade corridor that once stretched from Asia toward the Mediterranean. The race celebrates this legendary trail, winding through rugged Himalayan terrain from Narkanda to Sarahan (Shimla district), Himachal Pradesh — a route steeped in history, culture and natural beauty.

13 km Trail

  • Distance: ~13 km

  • Route: Narkanda → Baghi
  • Cut-off: ~4 hrs 30 min
  • Eligibility: 18+ years

30 km Trail

  • Distance: ~30 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: +1699 m / −1560 m
  • Route: Narkanda → Khadarala
  • Cut-off: ~7 hrs
  • Eligibility: 18+ years

55 km Ultra Trail

  • Distance: ~55 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: +3236 m / −3601 m
  • Route: Narkanda → Narayan
  • Cut-off: ~12 hrs
  • Eligibility: 18+ years, typically with prior marathon or trail results

100 km Ultra Trail

  • Distance: ~100 km
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: +6691 m / −7326 m
  • Route: Narkanda → Sarahan
  • Cut-off: ~26 hrs
  • Eligibility: 18+ with previous ultra or marathon experience

The Silk Route Ultra Trail follows the ancient Silk Route used for centuries for trade and cultural exchange, now rediscovered as a trail running corridor. The course spans a variety of terrains — from steep mountain passes and forested slopes to rocky trails and high mountain ridges — offering runners a true Himalayan trail running experience through landscapes, heritage and natural beauty.

  • The route passes through classic Himalayan foothills and ridges near Shimla, Kinnaur and Rampur regions.
  • It combines significant elevation, technical trails and remote navigation.
